Glasgow City put nine past Kilmarnock
Glasgow City continued their fine form of late defeating Kilmarnock a thoroughly convincing 9-0 tonight at Glasgow Green.
Going into this match both teams were tied on points in the League, but with City having four games in hand. Kilmarnock’s credible 3-2 defeat to Hibernian at the weekend had most thinking this may be a tight affair, but City continued where they left off last Saturday in the League Cup Final and dominated their opponents from start to finish.
Four nil up at half time through goals from Leanne Ross, Jane Ross, Katharina Lindner and Ruesha Littlejohn put the League champions firmly in the driving seat and in the second half, City never took their foot off the pedal.
Another two goals for Littlejohn gave the City striker her first hat-trick of the season, while Jane Ross and Leanne Ross both scored one more to each earn a brace. Midfielder Danni Stewart also made the score sheet with a good strike inside the box.
Tonight’s result moves City into third spot in the League ahead of Hibernian, with the Glasgow side still with games in hand.
City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki was very pleased with tonight’s result. He said, “It can sometimes be difficult to lift yourself again after a Cup Final win and on a damp miserable night like tonight, there cannot be many people wanting to run about on a football pitch. But the girls were superb. We made three changes from the starting line up in our Cup Final win, but the changes never showed. This highlights the depth of quality at Glasgow City and once again how important a quality squad is if you want to win the Premier League.”
