City move into second place

Glasgow City today leapfrogged Spartans into second place in the Premier League following an 8-0 win over Raith Rovers at Glasgow Green.

City started where they left off against Boroughmuir last weekend and were on the scoresheet within the first couple of minutes. Striker Jane Ross drove down the wing and cut into the box, but was brought down from behind, just as she was about to pull the trigger. Ruesha Littlejohn then stepped up to take the resultant spot kick and coolly put it past the keeper to put City in the lead.

Jane Ross added a second soon after when she stroked home a cross from Katharina Lindner. Ross then scored again when she closed down a Raith goal line clearance, to put her side 3-0 up.

Just before half time, Ross had a hat-trick when she converted a good cross from midfielder Leanne Ross.

Half time 4-0.

Leanne Ross scored City’s fifth, following in a shot from Sue Lappin, which the keeper

 was only able to parry.

Ruesha Littlejohn was on target with goal number six for City after coolly rounding the

 goalkeeper.

Substitute Jane Brown scored number seven with an excellent left foot shot on the half volley. City completed the rout with Littlejohn getting her hat-trick and City’s eighth with a close range finish with ten minutes left to play.

City Boss Peter Caulfield was pleased with another three points. He said, “Once again today was a job well done. Eight goals and another clean sheet is very pleasing, However, we could have been more focused at certain points throughout the game and in particular I was disappointed that we dropped our standards towards the end of the game. I expect this team to work hard for the full ninety minutes and irrespective of the score we must maintain our discipline.”
