City keep title bid on track

Glasgow City today defeated Raith Rovers 4-0 in Glenrothes to ensure an eleven point lead at the top of the table.

City went into this match strong favourites for three points, but had their work cut out on a very difficult playing surface. With two goals in each half this was a very comfortable victory for the away side, with Jane Ross netting twice and Ruesha Littlejohn and Suzanne Lappin each getting a goal apiece.

The pick of the bunch came from Lappin as she headed into the net following excellent play from Leanne Ross and Jane Ross.

City had plenty opportunities to add to their goal tally, but poor finishing combined with a few decent saves from the Raith keeper ensured the match finished at a respectable 4-0.

City boss Peter Caulfield was pleased with his side’s second half performance. He said, “We were poor in the first half. The pitch was terrible but we could still have done things at a much higher tempo. After a few harsh words at half time I was glad to see the players responded and I was much happier with the second 45 minutes. Once again, we could have been far more ruthless in front of goal, but I am content with four goals and another clean sheet. We now have five games left and we must keep focussed. This League is still far from over, but we are getting closer.”
