City hit Forfar for twelve

Glasgow City recorded their sixth straight win of the new season with a resounding 12-0 triumph over Forfar Farmington.

Today’s match highlighted City’s all round ability and strength as they dominated the visitors right from the first whistle. First on the goal sheet was Jane Ross, who went on to score a total of five on the day. A defence splitting pass from Leanne Ross played in Kat Lindner down the right hand side and she sent over a cross which was converted from close range by Jane Ross.

Sue Lappin then made it number two with a trademark header from an Emma Fernon corner.

Lindner then found herself amongst the goals as she was sent clear by Leanne Ross once more and fired well past the Fiona McNicol in the Forfar goals.

Number  four, was converted by Jane Ross. Leanne Ross was again controlling play in the midfield and her diagonal ball found the run of Jane Ross, who rounded the keeper to score her second of the game.

Jane Ross then got her hat-trick when the keeper could only punch a cross to the edge of the box, which Ross controlled well before firing into the top right hand corner.

Goal number six was scored by Leanne Ross. Played through by fellow midfielder Megan Sneddon, Ross, strolled past a couple of defenders before rounding McNicol to score with ease.

Jane Ross then made it goal number four and seven for City. Ross had an initial shot saved well by the Forfar keeper and the rebound fell to Leanne Ross. Her effort was then blocked once more, with Jane Ross finally converting in the six yard box.

With relentless pressure on the Forfar goal, City were awarded a penalty, when Suzanne Malone was brought down in the area. Up stepped Leanne Ross to put her side 8-0 up.

Just before half-time Jane Ross got her fifth goal of the game, when Malone cut the ball back from the right and Ross finished into the bottom corner.

Half time 9-0.

During the course of the second half, City brought on all five substitutes, but maintained their rhythm and control of the game.

Number ten was converted by Lindner who scored an excellent individual goal. Receiving the ball from a throw in, the German born striker, turned her marker, drove into the box and finished well in the bottom corner.

Substitute Ruesha Littlejohn converted number twelve. Littlejohn won the ball in the middle of the park, played in Jane Ross who turned her defender, drove to the bye line and cut the ball back for Littlejohn to finish well within the six yard box.

The rout was completed by Suzanne Malone. Sneddon played the ball through for Malone who rounded the keeper and scored from a tight angle.

City boss Peter Caulfield was understandably delighted with is side’s performance. He said, “We have criticised the girls recently for waiting until the second half before they got out of second gear, but we cannot say that today. Every single player was excellent today. Everybody wanted on the ball. Our passing was crisp and we moved the ball really well.  We are coming to a critical time of the season and the players just seem to be performing better and better with every match, which is very pleasing indeed.”
