Glasgow City fire three past Killie
Glasgow City took three points and three goals from Kilmarnock today on a pitch not suited for quad biking let alone football.
With games in hand behind Celtic, Spartans and Hibernian, City desperately needed to start clawing back the fixtures and although conditions were the worst I am sure both teams have ever faced from a playing surface, City emerged from Ayrshire with a job well done.
A first half goal from Rachel Corsie, followed by a second half penalty conversion from Ruesha Littlejohn and then a close range strike from Jane Ross, ensured City got the three points they were after.
This was a game where running was almost impossible let alone trying to pass, but City did their best against a hard working Killie side. Kat Lindner in particular caused the Killie left full back no end of problems, turning her inside and then out on many occasions. However, despite dominance for the entire match City failed to convert a number of chances, which would have made the scoreline a closer reflection on the game.
City boss, Peter Caulfield commented,
“That was probably one of the most frustrating afternoons I have had as City Manager. We totally controlled the match and how we did not win by a much greater margin, was most probably due to the pitch although our finishing could have been better. Today’s conditions were suited to preventing us playing our normal game, so we adapted well and did our best under the circumstances. If the pitch stays in this condition, a number of sides will find it difficult here, but I am glad to see we got a game played and three points on the table.”
