City fire nine past Aberdeen

Glasgow City moved within three points of leaders Celtic with a convincing 9-0 win over Aberdeen today.

City scored within the first five minutes, with an excellent in swinging corner from Emma Fernon which the Dons keeper was unable to keep out.

Fernon repeated her amazing feat with another menacing corner, which once more flew into the back of the Aberdeen net to put City 2-0 up after 19 minutes.

Sue Lappin then put the game beyond the visitors, when good play between Lindner and Lappin, set the City midfielder up for her first of the game. Within ten minutes, Lappin had her second of the game and her side’s fourth, when she directed a free kick from Leanne Ross into the back of the net from five yards.

Half time 4-0.

Within ten minutes of the re-start, Leanne Ross put her side on easy street when she latched on to a ball from Laura Montgomery and expertly lobbed the Dons keeper with a cool finish. Ross then got her second with a well placed left foot strike from the edge of the box to make it 6-0 to the home side.

Goal number seven came from substitute Megan Sneddon who finished from close range following a City corner. With five minutes remaining Lappin got her fourth hat-trick of the season with a trade mark headed finish.

City rounded off a fine display with striker Ruesha Littlejohn scoring number nine after getting on to the end of a flick on from Sue Lappin.

Head Coach Eddie Wolecki was happy with his side’s performance. He said, “We asked the girls for a solid performance today and we got that. Another clean sheet and nine goals, makes it hard to find faults. The only disappointment was that we had more than enough opportunities to go into double figures today, but I cannot be critical. We made a few changes to the starting line up today and once again it shows the quality in this squad that personnel changes do not make a difference to the effectiveness of our display. We have a big game on Wednesday in the Semi-Final of the Scottish Cup and this game can only fill us with confidence going into what will be a tough match.”
