City bounce back with 12

Glasgow City bounced back from their disappointing result against Celtic last Thursday with an impressive 12-0 win over Boroughmuir.

Over the past few weeks, City have looked a little jaded, but they came back to form in fine style today at Glasgow Green with a top class display against Edinburgh side Boroughmuir.

City welcomed influential midfielder Suzanne Lappin back into the side, but it was striker Ruesha Littlejohn who stole the limelight, scoring half of City’s impressive goal tally.

City were 4-0 up at half time, with all four goals courtesy of top goalscorer Littlejohn. However, a number of missed opportunities in the first ten minutes in particular, could and should have made the home side go in at the break at least 8-0 up.

In the second half, City increased the tempo even further and created chance after chance with Littlejohn adding another two goals to her first half tally. Also on the scoresheet was Clare Gemmell (2), Leanne Ross (2), Katharina Lindner (1) and Jane Brown (1).

The pick of the goals on show came from Littlejohn and Brown. Littlejohn’s fifth of the match, saw her kill a long throw in from Megan Sneddon before turning and unleashing an unstoppable left foot chip into the top corner of the net from just inside the box. Substitute Brown got her only goal of the game after some fantastic team play involving Leanne Ross, Lappin and Littlejohn., which provided the City striker with a tap in from inside the 6 yard box.

The home team made a couple of changes from the side that lined up against Celtic with Captain Laura Montgomery and full back Leanne Campbell on the bench in place of Lappin and Kirsty McNicol. However, Montgomery came on at half-time to replace the injured Rachel Corsie, in the heart of the City defence and Campbell came on deep in the second half, to replace McNicol.

Boss Peter Caulfield was delighted with his team’s performance. He said, “We were so disappointed with ourselves after the Celtic game as we truly let ourselves down and by the time we got our game going, it was too late and Celtic were already ahead. Today, I asked the girls to put that result out of their heads and to give me a performance. For the team to play so well, get three points and score twelve goals is fantastic and I could not have asked for more. I wanted them to bounce back quickly from our disappointing results over the last few weeks, and they did that in style today.”
