City book place in Scottish Cup Final

Glasgow City booked their place in the Unite Scottish Cup Final in emphatic style tonight running out 8-1 winners against Hamilton Accies at the new Toryglen Football Centre.

Looking for a place in their eleventh Cup Final in eight years, City started brightly and could have been 2-0 up within the first couple of minutes, with Ruesha Littlejohn and Jane Ross going agonisingly close. On five minutes, Ross did however put her side in the lead, racing on to a good through ball from Emme Fernon and finishing well.

Ross then put her side 2-0 up bulleting her header past the Accies keeper after a superb cross from Kat Lindner.

Next on the scoresheet was centre half Rachel Corsie who finished from inside the box after a City corner. Goal provider then turned goal scorer as Lindner scored City’s fourth to put her side into a comfortable lead.

At the start of the second half, City made a few changes, bringing on Kirsty McNicol and Jane Brown for Littlejohn and Lindner as the tide continued to flow towards the Hamilton goal.

Ross got her hat-trick finishing high into the back of the net after being set-up by Megan Sneddon after a good switch of play by Leeanne Campbell.

Hamilton then got a consolation goal back from a free kick which went in off the underside of the bar.

However, Jane Brown restored City’s six goal cushion with a clever flick off the outside of the boot to finish well under pressure inside the Accies box. City midfielder Leanne Ross then compounded Hamilton’s misery when she made it 8-1 after being played in by a Rachel Corsie header.

Having already won the Premier League Cup this season, City Boss Peter Caulfield was thrilled at the chance of more silverware. He said, “The team played well tonight and we are delighted to be in another Cup Final. Football is all about winning trophies and we have another chance to do that next month. The Scottish Cup Final is a great occasion and no matter who we will face, I am sure it will be a great game.”

City’s opponents will be decided tomorrow when First Division Rangers face Premier League side Spartans at Toryglen.
