Manager delighted at Fernon news

Glasgow City manager, Peter Caulfield, expressed his delight yesterday at the news that Emma Fernon's injury may not keep her sidelined for much longer.

Following a somewhat innocuous challenge, during the Premier League Cup final in November, Emma sustained a serious knee injury resulting in the rupture of her posterior cruciate ligament and stretching to her medial and lateral ligaments, which suggested she may be out for at least a year. Following a recent MRI scan and consultation with a specialist consultant, however, the club has been assured that the knee is stable enough to rule out an operation and that with continued hard work Emma could be back playing in around 6 to 8 weeks time.

The manager commented, "This is a huge boost to everyone at the club that Emma is now resuming full training. We will be monitoring her progress closely but are hoping that the consultant's diagnosis is proved correct and we can see her back in a Glasgow City shirt for the season's run-in. Emma’s form prior to her injury was outstanding and she was beginning to show the kind of consistency that had been missing a bit over the last couple of years. I am sure this has come from her maturing as a footballer and as a person and I know she has the attitude to work hard through her rehabilitation and come back even better."
