City lift Premier League Cup

Glasgow City lifted the Premier League Cup today after a thoroughly convincing 3-0 win over Spartans at Forthbank stadium

With both sides undefeated this season, something was going to have to give in this game and City showed for the full ninety minutes that they were going to be the ones keeping their impressive record intact.

City dominated this match impressively and it was a shock to everyone that the teams went in 0-0 at half time. Kat Lindner and Jane Ross in particular were causing havoc in the Spartans defence but fine goalkeeping, combined with the bar and the post saved Spartans in the first half.

Within two minutes of the re-start City finally got their reward, when Jane Ross made space for herself at the edge of the box before hitting a left foot shot into the bottom corner of the Spartans net. Five minutes later City were 2-0 up, this time Ruesha Littlejohn converting a cut back from Kat Lindner after the City winger had once again got in behind the Spartans defence.

Jane Ross then got her second of the day and City’s third when good combination play on the right released Sue Lappin who played in Ross to make it a comfortable victory for the Glasgow side.

Boss Peter Caulfield was delighted at his team’s performance. He said, We were outstanding today. Spartans are an excellent side and we knew how difficult this would be but we controlled the whole game and to be honest, I am surprised we never won by more, we certainly had enough chances in the first half alone. It was a great team performance all round, but special credit goes to Kat and Jane who were simply unstoppable today. We play Spartans now a week tomorrow in what is arguably a more important game as it is in the League, so I will be looking for a repeat performance. Well done to the girls, I am so pleased for them and very, very proud.”
