City awarded Team of the Year 2008
Glasgow City were tonight crowned Team of the Year at the prestigious Glasgow Sportsperson of the Year Awards at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
City were humbled by their nomination for this award alone, a category of nominees that includes all sports teams in Glasgow across all sporting disciplines, amateur and professional alike. However, the team’s achievements this year domestically and in Europe made them the worthy winners of this incredible award.
Manager Peter Caulfield and players Laura Montgomery (Captain), Leeanne Campbell (Vice-Captain) and Katharina Lindner represented City on the night at the black tie affair, receiving their award in front of over 300 dignitaries including leading members of parliament, the media and the sporting community.
Manager Peter Caulfield expressed his amazement at the team’s achievement in winning. He said, “This is a very prestigious award and we were astounded we were even nominated. To win is unbelievable but I think it highlights just how successful Glasgow City have been in this last year, not only at home, but also in reaching the last sixteen in Europe. It is fantastic to have women’s football recognised in this manner and the amount of congratulations we received tonight from some very important people was extremely flattering. It is an honour to be Manager of Glasgow City and tonight emphasised yet again, just how far we want to take this club.”
