Five City players in A Squad camp

A record number five Glasgow City players were recently selected for the Scotland A squad training camp in Edinburgh.

Scotland regulars Leanne Ross and Megan Sneddon were joined by striker Jane Ross, midfielder Sue Lappin and centre half Rachel Corsie in a 23 strong Scotland squad.

Despite City’s immense success since its inception and finishing in the Premier League’s top two for the last seven years running, Glasgow City has rarely had more than two players in the senior Scotland squad. However, the recent announcement by Anna Signeul of her squad sees a total of five Glasgow City girls selected, leaving City Manager Peter Caulfield delighted.

He said, “It has for many years been frustrating to be doing so well, but yet see very few of our players given the opportunity at senior international level. It is a great boost to the team to now have five players in the squad and it is of little surprise. All of them have been having a great season and deserve their place. Their performances for City have got them selected, so it is up to them now to keep their place. They need to show what they can do when with Scotland and similarly keep up their good form every time they pull on a City jersey.  I don’t think it will be too long before we have a few other players knocking on the international door.”
