Baker reflects on Toryglen match
Glasgow City Reserves boss Fiona Baker took time recently to reflect on her side’s first League defeat of the season, after losing 5-3 to Toryglen.
She said, “It was disappointing to drop our first three points of the season. We were always behind in the game and thus constantly had to chase play, which was not ideal. We lost an early goal on seven minutes, but to be fair to the team, this did not dishearten them and they pushed for an equaliser coming close on many occasions. The pressure eventually paid off and we did get the vital goal just before half time when Fiona Woods netted.
“In the second half however, we allowed Toryglen too much time on the ball and we lost an early goal again, six minutes after the re-start. Once more, we had to chase the game, and like the first half, I felt we created a number of decent chances and eventually equalised when Lisa Hendry scored a good individual goal with 20 minutes remaining. Four minutes later though, a defensive error cost us badly as we gifted them a third to put them back into the lead. However, we fought right back and scored straight from kick off. Some nice play created an opportunity for Louise Thomson and she made it 3-3.
“At this point, I felt the girls were getting on top of the game, enjoying most of the possession, but with nine minutes remaining Toryglen shot from distance catching our keeper off her line and they scored again from the spot a few moments later.
“We made it very hard for ourselves, always having to come from behind and some basic errors really cost us. However, these are all things we can work on at training and hopefully push to eradicate in future.”
