Eilish McSorley hits City landmark
It has been a special week for Eilish McSorley as the City defender recorded her 100th competitive start for the Champions last Sunday in the win over Forfar and celebrated her 21st birthday a few days later.
Girvan born Eilish joined Glasgow City at 15 years old as a youth international with lots of potential. After spending one year with our Development team she was quickly accelerated into the first team and made her Champions League debut in 2009 including a memorable game against German giants Bayern Munich.
Despite fierce competition she quickly established herself as a first team regular and went on to compete at youth Under 19 international level before making the breakthrough into the senior national team, something very few youth internationals manage to achieve so quickly.
Eilish is ranked 16th in the City all-time list of most starts for the club and despite her young years has a host of honours behind her already, including 5 SWPL titles, 4 Scottish Cups and 3 SWPL League Cups. She also boasts 5 Champions League campaigns along with the Second Division title and the SWF League Cup, having lifted both trophies with our Development team in 2008.

With an impressive career so far, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black plays tribute to our number 5 and believes she can go on to achieve much more for the club. He said, “It does seem remarkable that it in the week of Eilish’s 21st birthday she has hit the landmark of 100 starts for the club. Her list of achievements for one so young are truly outstanding.
“Throughout the years, Eilish as a centre half has had to contend with a lot of competition at the club including two club captains. It is well documented that she has had five European campaigns behind her but she has also managed to claim 14 full international appearances during that time after moving up from the under 19s. If she can manage to stay fit and play well then it is more than realistic to say that her name will appear in the top ten of all time appearances for the club before this season ends. Although she has achieved so much I believe there is a lot more to come. I hope she can fulfil her undoubted talent and go on to achieve many more successes as a Glasgow City player.”
