Eddie Wolecki Black reflects on first win in Group 8
Last night, Glasgow City won their first match in Group 8 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League first round as they came from behind twice to win 3-2 against Croatian Champions Osijek. Two goals from defender Danica Dalziel and a brilliant free kick from Emma Mitchell gave Glasgow City the win they needed in what was a very difficult match.
Commenting on his side’s win, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “First and foremost we got three points. In the Champions League, the games should be tough and it was tough. There is not a better way to win a game of football than to come back and score twice in the last 7 minutes. I did tell the team that this would be as tough as it has ever been as a group stage for us and I think that was proved yesterday. I think people may forget that we have just defeated a team who were in the knock out round of 32 last year. We just want to put ourselves in a position now to win tomorrow’s game to have the best chance possible going into the last match of progression.”
Tomorrow, City face Moldovan side FC Noroc Nimoreni, who went down 6-0 to Finnish Champions PK-35 Vantaa in the other match of the group yesterday.
