City youngsters win again
Glasgow City Under 13's continued their excellent winning streak win with a 3-1 away win to St Mirren, on Saturday in Paisley.
City made a good start to the game winning their first corner on just 3 minutes. The set-piece was taken by Lauren Kelly, who delivered well to Louise Foster, who in turn converted to give City the early lead.
The first half was a tight affair with both teams having their fair share of possession and chances on goal. However, any efforts on the City goalmouth were well dealt with by Lauren Bullock in the City nets and her defenders.
With seven minutes left to play in the opening period, Lauren Simmons made it 2-0 to the visitors. Simmons collected the ball in midfield and hit a good strike across the face of goal and into the top corner.
Half time 2-0
At the start of the second half, City lost their focus and organisation, and gave the ball away straight from the kick off. This proved to be a costly mistake as the Saints midfield collected the ball and hit a good effort, which Bullock was unable to get to, allowing the Paisley side to half the deficit.
City however, were quick to respond and five minutes later Kayleigh McHugh restored her side’s two goal advantage. An excellent ball from left back Katie Rice put McHugh in one on one with the goalkeeper and the City forward duly slotted home. It was a just reward for the young striker who had worked tirelessly up front since the first whistle.
As the game went on both teams battled hard through the muddy playing field and strong winds but no side was able to add to their tally for the day.
Full time 3-1
