City show their Championship winning form
Glasgow City showed exactly why they have just won their sixth title in a row as they demolished Hibernian 8-1 in Broxburn.
Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black took the opportunity to rest a number of his star names ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final on Wednesday, but you would never have known as his side produced an incredible performance to outclass their opponents, who going into this match were in second place in the SWPL.
A hat trick for Jane Ross and a debut goal for the returning Sue Lappin put City well in front just after the midway stage. Further goals from Eilish McSorley, Ashley McDonald and a double from Emma Fernon from the penalty spot completed the rout for the nation’s top side. Right at full time, Rebecca Zoltie scored a consolation for Hibs, who must now pick themselves up before they face City again on Wednesday in the Cup.
Commenting on the win and performance City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said, “We are delighted with the result. We managed to rest a number of players and I am thrilled with the performance. We have suffered of late from missing a lot of chances, but today we managed to take them as the scoreline shows. We will now prepare for Wednesday’s crucial semi-final match.”
Glasgow City take on Hibernian again on Wednesday in the semi-final of the Henson Projects Scottish Cup at Ravenscraig Football Centre, 7.30pm. A win for City will not only put them in the final but will keep their hopes alive for completing the treble after having already secured the League title and League Cup this season. Entry to the semi-final is free of charge, so why not head along and support the girls.
