City knocked out of Cup

Unite Scottish Cup holders Glasgow City were sent crashing out of the Cup tonight, as Hibs defeated them 2-1 at Toryglen.

Hot favourites to retain the title, City went ahead through a left foot strike from midfielder Clare Gemmell in the first half.

At the start of the second period, Hibs pulled a goal back when a defensive error allowed Hollie Thomson to fire home. The holders continued to dominate the majority of the play, but were unable to capitalise on their chances, with Shannon Lynn in the Hibs goal in outstanding form.

City were left to rue their missed opportunites, when Clare Emslie strode forward and hit a powerful unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards. As the clock ticked by City could not break down a stubborn Hibs defence and the Edinburgh side held on to win.

Having now knocked out Spartans, Celtic and City, Hibs must truly feel this is their year and were well deserving of their Cup Final place, with a hard fought, gritty performance.
