City keep up the momentum

Glasgow City kept their momentum up as the title race edges to the wire, with a resounding 6-0 win over Forfar at Glasgow Green.

City took the lead within five minutes, when Clare Gemmell converted in the box after being set-up by a cut back from Jane Ross.

City obtained a 2 goal advantage when Kat Lindner fired a menacing cross along the six yard box, which the Forfar defender could only divert into the back of her own net.

A foul on Jane Ross at the edge of the Forfar box, set up a free kick for City. Up stepped Rachel Corsie, who hit a great effort towards the top corner, which Fiona McNicol in the Forfar goals, brilliantly touched on to the bar. Lindner reacted to the rebound and passed to the back post for Jane Ross to easily tap the ball over the line.

City went 4-0 up when Lindner once again proved provider crossing for Rachel Corsie to finish well inside the box.

Half time 4-0.

Early into the second half, Leanne Ross made it 5-0 for the home side, with one of the goals of the game. Ross received a throw in from Emma Fernon, played it into the path of Lindner, who returned the favour setting up Ross to score from the middle of the box. It was an excellent passing move, topped off with a fine left foot finish from Ross.

Goal number six came from Jane Ross, who got her second of the day, converting a Fernon corner with a near post header.

Head Coach Eddie Wolecki commented on the game. He said, “I was delighted with our start. We began with a really high tempo and forced them into a lot of errors. We took our goals well and passed comfortably. Forfar have shown this season to be a very difficult team to break down and I think this result speaks volumes as to how well we are playing right now.”
