City hit seven past luckless Raith
Glasgow City ran out comfortable winners today as they hit seven past luckless Raith Rovers at Glasgow Green.
City went in 3-0 at half time thanks to two goals from Suzanne Malone and one from Katharina Lindner. All three goals were well taken shots from outside the box. Lindner’s effort was a left foot volley from 30 yards and Malone hit a cracking drive into the top left hand corner, followed by a sublime chip over the keeper.
Not long into the second half, Leeanne Campbell made it 4-0 from the penalty spot after Raith had handled in the box. Suzanne Lappin then added to the lead as she headed in at the back post following a cross from Danni Stewart.
Goal number six came once more from forward Lindner with the quality of this strike equalling her first half effort. Receiving the ball just inside the Raith half, Lindner raced towards goal, taking on the centre half, before coolly slotting past the Rovers keeper. It was a great individual goal for the German born striker and one which I am sure will fill her with confidence for the next match.
Rounding up a fine performance was Ruesha Littlejohn who made it 7-0 and a very comfortable win for City. A short and unselfish pass from fellow striker Jane Ross, allowed Littlejohn to turn her marker in the six yard box, before finishing from close range.
Captain Laura Montgomery, who had to sit out due to injury was impressed with the team’s performance. She said, “The girls once more played well today. We were without Megan Sneddon again who is a big influence for us in midfield, but Raith never troubled us. Jill Paterson made her debut today and I thought she was excellent. She looked as though she has been playing in a City jersey all season and will be a tremendous asset to the side. Similarly, Katie Reilly came on late in the second half and she adds even more quality to the team. We now have a break due to international duty, but we look forward to the next game against Vale of Clyde.
