City girls ready for Israel

Good luck to City’s Scotland players who are ready to take on Israel tomorrow in Ness Ziona.

Rachel Corsie, Jo Love, Leanne Ross, Jane Ross, Emma Fernon and Lisa Evans are all part of national coach Anna Signuel’s squad, as Scotland prepare to play their first Qualifier on the road to the European Championships in 2013.

Having cruelly missed out in 2009 to the away goals rule in a two legged play off against Russia, Scotland are determined to go one better and ensure the senior national team reach their first ever major tournament.

The national team are certainly well prepared for the difficult tie against Israel, after impressing in their last challenge match, a 7-2 rout over Finland. Add to this, City’s own heroic exploits in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and Scottish women’s football is booming right now.

Never having played an Israeli side before at any level, the match is a big challenge for Scotland, not just because they face the unknown but also because the match will be played in the middle of the day in 32 degree heat. However, Scotland have prepared well and now with a settled squad of players, they are growing with confidence and experience in every match.

The game will kick off at 12noon (10pm UK time) at Ness Ziona Municipal Stadium, Ness Ziona, Israel.

Unfortunately City striker and Scotland regular, Christie Murray was forced to withdraw from the squad after being carried off injured in City’s 3-0 win over Valur Reykjavic last week.
