City enter the winter break

Both Glasgow City sides have now officially entered their winter break with it becoming increasingly apparent that the weather would once again play havoc with intended fixtures this weekend.

The City First team were going to try and play their outstanding fixture with Forfar Farmington for the third week running this Sunday, but the Forfar pitch is already frozen with the weather only due to worsen. The rest of the Premier League has already entered the winter break, however, City were trying to catch up on some of their outstanding fixtures.

The same is true of City reserve side, Glasgow City Girls, who were also trying to play their previously postponed match against Team Strathclyde. However with the rest of their Second Division counterparts in the winter break, Strathclyde could not guarantee player availability irrespective of the weather and it was agreed that this match would wait until the season resumes next February.

Weather permitting, the two City sides plan to play each other in a friendly at their home park at Glasgow Green this Sunday, with Head Coach Eddie Wolecki keen to keep his sides in action.

He said, “We don’t rest over the winter. It is purely a break in the domestic fixture calendar, but we train as normal and if anything get time to work on things that we cannot do during the playing season. If the park is playable on Sunday, it will give me the opportunity to work on our shape and play as a whole club and these opportunities are invaluable in terms of having all of the girls together in a match environment.”
