City easy against Newburgh

Glasgow City ensured another three points today with their comfortable 8-0 over Newburgh at Glasgow Green.

City made one change from their starting eleven from last week, with trialist Danni Stewart coming into midfield in place of Leanne Crichton who was unavailable for today’s match.

City got off the mark with an excellent strike from Katharina Lindner following some good link play with Suzanne Lappin. Lappin herself was next on the scoresheet , as she once again proved a handful in the air, brilliantly meeting a fine cross from striker Jane Ross and powering her header past the helpless Newburgh keeper.

City dominated the first half and further goals from Lindner and Lappin, two from Danni Stewart and one from Leanne Ross, made it a very comfortable 7-0 half time lead for the home side.

In the second half Newburgh rallied and defended well against the attacking City. A close range strike from Jane Ross after the Newburgh keeper had failed to hold a stinging shot from City substitute Suzanne Malone, made the final score 8-0.

With standards being set each week, City boss Peter Caulfield was not entirely happy with his team, despite their victory. He said, “We are expecting a lot from the girls this year and although the result and three points are what we are looking for, I demand more from my players. We are a much better football side than what we showed today. The movement and slickness of pass seemed to desert us at times and that is frustrating. Our level of performance needs to be consistent, but we will work on this during the week and hopefully will improve for the cup game against Celtic on Sunday.”
