City defeat Blackburn
Glasgow City continue to look in good shape for the restart of the season following an 8-0 win over English Premier side Blackburn Rovers.
Travelling down to Blackburn today, City played a full ninety minutes, which finished 6-0, followed by an extra 30 minutes to ensure every player had a full run out.
With the first League match fast approaching along with the UEFA Women’s Champions League, today was a chance for City to test themselves against one of the top English sides, and they did not disappoint.
Kat Lindner opened the scoring for the away side, converting at the back post following a Sue Lappin knockdown. Lappin then turned goalscorer finishing from 6 yards after striker Jane Ross cut the ball back.
Jane Ross then put City 3-0 up, with a good left foot strike across the face of the keeper after some good link up between Lindner and Lappin.
Lindner then got her second of the match with a fine chip over the keeper after she made a good run through the defence to get on the end of a through ball from Jane Ross.
City made it 5-0 before half time when Leanne Ross finished off a fine City move. Leeanne Campbell played in Lindner down the right and she crossed to Leanne Ross, who finished well from inside the box.
In the second half, City added to their lead with Lindner getting her hat-trick to make it 6-0 at full-time.
In extra-time, Jane Ross made it 7-0 to the visitors converting well from outside the box after Lindner had taken a quick throw in. Ross then also got a hat-trick striking into the back of an empty net after the City forward line had tore the Blackburn defence apart.
City Boss, Peter Caulfield said, “We have not been down in England for a while, so it was a good opportunity to see how we can compete. We have won comfortably against very good opposition and we are really pleased with the team’s performance. Six goals in normal time and a clean sheet against a very good side is excellent. We now look forward to a week of preparation for a tough match against Spartans on Sunday.”
