Glasgow City complete the loan signing of NWSL star Morgan Marlborough

Glasgow City are delighted to announce the loan signing of striker Morgan Marlborough from NWSL Champions FC Kansas City.

The 23 year old was a second round college draft pick for the US professional League Champions at the start of last season after a highly successful college career and selection for the US Under 23 national team.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, the 6’0” forward began her college career at Nebraska University (NU). She was a unanimous freshman All-American after leading her team with 49 points (21 goals, 7 assists). As a sophomore, she set a NU record with goals in eight straight matches and earned her second successive Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award.

After transferring to Santa Clara University prior to her senior year, Marlborough made another huge impression, playing in all 22 games and scoring 15 goals, as she helped lead her side to the last 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Commenting on her loan signing at Glasgow City, Morgan said, “I had a great experience playing for FC Kansas City and winning the NWSL championship was such a great accomplishment for our team. I look forward to pursuing my professional career on loan with Glasgow City FC. I am excited to experience soccer in Scotland and compete in Champions League. I am very grateful for this opportunity."

Glasgow City Club Manager Laura Montgomery said, “This is obviously the second year in a row, we have brought a player in on loan from the professional League in the States. Our loan of Jess Fishlock last year was extremely good for us and she had a great impact on the team and indeed the fans. As everyone knows, this is our most crucial and challenging time of the season as we look to do our best in the knock out rounds of the Champions League as well as pushing on to try and retain our domestic treble. It takes a lot of hard work, a great and talented squad to compete on all fronts as the big games come thick and fast, and we believe the addition of Morgan will help us try to achieve our ambitions this season.”

With the international break this weekend, Morgan’s first chance for competitive action for City will be in the SWPL against Spartans on Sunday 21st September, Airdrie Excelsior Stadium, 2.30pm.
