City Under 15's go down to Celtic
Glasgow City Under 15’s went down 10-0 to an experienced Celtic side yesterday.
City’s new Under 15’s were up against a good Celtic Under 14 team who were well structured with some good passing and movement. The City girls did well to cope with the experienced Celtic but some lack of communication in the City ranks was capitalised by the home side, who also won a controversial penalty.
City did have chances to score themselves. Alex Wells ran into space, but saw her excellent effort rebound off the bar. City were unlucky again, after a good run through the defence, only to be denied once more by the woodwork with some excellent passing from Abigail Park and Lauren Ray.
Despite the suggestion of the scoreline, Sophie Campbell had a good display in the City nets, making some very good saves. In addition, three new signings made their debut in the shape of Lauren Dunn, Courtney McDonald and Rebecca Minto.
City Coach Stuart Glover reflected on the match. He said, “Kirsty (fellow City Under 15 coach) and I both feel the girls played really well today. With each match we play, it is showing that they are listening to what we have to say. It was great to see the new signings making their debut and although they will take time to catch up with our set plays etc, they have added great strength and depth to the squad. It is not about winning at this age, we are looking for the girls to develop their technique and learn how the game should be played. We were delighted about how positive the team were even after defeat and that spirit will make them get better and better as we get to spend longer together as a team.”
