City top seeds in Champions League draw

Glasgow City are delighted to learn that they have been ranked as a number one seed in the upcoming UEFA Women's Champions League draw.

Having won the last four Scottish Premier League titles City enter their fourth Champions League in a row and it is their excellent results over the past three qualifying rounds that has now given them the highest ranking.

Commenting on the upcoming draw, City's Laura Montgomery said, "Since 2008 when our run began in Serbia we were fourth seeds, which is bottom seeds. In 2009 our performances from Serbia, where we won the Group and reached the last sixteen of the tournament, moved us to third seeds and in Lithuania, our two wins out of three, gave us second ranking for last year's draw. We are thrilled therefore to now finally be top ranked going into the draw this season and it will be nice to know for the first time since 2008, it will be impossible for us to face a winner or former Champions League runner-up so early on in the competition. Whilst it has been fantastic to play some of the best sides and players in the world, it has not been kind to our chances to qualify."

The UEFA Women Champions League draw takes place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Thursday 23rd June. There are 32 clubs in the qualifying round competing in 8 groups of four teams. The winners of each group and the two best runners-up progress through to the last 32 knock-out stages.

Glasgow City's possible destinations are Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Finland, Macedonia and Cyprus as City aim to become the first Scottish team ever to make the knockout stages of European competition.
