City Reserves beat Hearts

Glasgow City Reserves defeated Hearts 5-1 on Sunday at Glasgow Green.

It was a good performance from City as they used the ball well and enjoyed the vast majority of possession throughout the game.

Striker Lyndsey Anderson got her side off to the perfect start, scoring within 6 minutes of the referee’s first whistle. The home side worked the ball well into the penalty area and Anderson used her strength to slot home under pressure from the Hearts defence.

City continued to dominate proceedings in the opening period, but were unable to add to their lead.

Half time 1-0.

Hearts proved a stronger challenge as the second half began and almost evened things up in the opening couple of minutes. However, they were made to rue their missed chance as City doubled their advantage when Lisa Hendry found the net four minutes after the re-start. Hendry broke free down the right hand side and hit a good shot to score from just outside the penalty area.

City took great confidence from the goal and continued like they did in the first half and controlled the game. Lisa Hendry got her second of the match, making 3-0, converting a penalty after Anderson was brought down in the Hearts penalty box

Linda O'Donnell then made it 4-0, before Hearts got a goal back. However, substitute Sarah Major restored her side's four goal cushion, with her second goal of the season, putting away a well placed finish into the top right hand corner of the Hearts net.

Coach Fiona Baker commented on her side’s win. She said, “I thought we played really well today. We should have gone in with a far greater advantage than we did at half-time and we were punished for it immediately when Hearts scored. However, credit to the girls, they responded immediately and once again dominated proceedings. Hearts are a strong physical side and we had to deal with that, which the girls did and passed the ball really well. I feel things are starting to come together for us now and the team showed against Hearts how good I know they can play. All we needed as a new side was games under our belt and I can see the difference this is now making. ”
