City Reserves and Maryhill in stalemate
City Reserves fought a hard 2-2 draw with Maryhill today at Glasgow Green.
City started the game really well and controlled the majority of the first half, hitting the post 3 times. However, the young City side were undone with Maryhill’s solitary strike at goal in the first half and went in at the break 1-0 down.
Half time 1-0
City regrouped and started the second half as well as the first, but disappointingly switched off for a few minutes and allowed Maryhill to score a second.
City however, kept to the game plan and gained the advantage when Maryhill were reduced to 10 players following a sending off.
City’s pressure eventually paid off and they got a well earned goal back through Sarah Major. Mel Stirling crossed to Ciara Barnes and her shot was cleared to the feet of Major who made no mistake from inside the box.
The home side continued to press and good passing play resulted in a free kick at the edge of the box. Up stepped striker Mel Stirling, who hit an unstoppable strike into the top corner, to draw City level.
City pressed for a winner and went close on a number of occasions, with Stirling hitting the post with seconds remaining. However, Maryhill could have also stole the win, but their striker missed a glorious chance with the City keeper beaten.
