City 15's all even with Motherwell
Glasgow City Under 15’s drew 1-1 with Motherwell Claret on Saturday, but were slightly disappointed not to pick up all three points after a strong performance.
On an extremely warm day, which itself was a test for both sides, the young City girls started the match strongly. City created a host of chances in the opening period and with only the Motherwell keeper and the post preventing them from taking the lead.
City’s failure to capitalise when on top, cost them dearly at the start of the second half, whenthe Motherwell striker lobbed the City keeper to put the home side in front. Credit to City however, as the set-back did not affect their confidence and they continued to attack.
A pass back was handled by the Motherwell keeper in her box, giving City a free kick. Up stepped Sarah Burrows and she hit a drive low and hard, which took a slight deflection as it sailed into the back of the net, to pull City level.
The goal gave City an undoubted boost and Motherwell were later reduced to ten players when a player was shown a straight red card. The numerical advantage put City in control as City attacked the Motherwell rearguard. Great passing from Amber Clark and running from Lauren Dunn was causing the home side particular problems, but again the woodwork and the Motherwell keeper prevented City from adding to their tally and securing the win they felt they deserved.
Commenting on the share of the points, Coach Stuart Glover said, “I am really happy with the way the girls played today. In previous games their heads would have dropped after we went behind, but they remained extremely positive and helped each other. Our passing and moving was a lot better than last week and we also held the ball up a lot better.”
