Champions head into Quarter Finals

Unite Scottish Cup holders Glasgow City progressed comfortably into the Quarter Finals with a 11-1 victory over their Reserve side at Glasgow Green.

In an unusual match, which saw the First team wear the away kit of black and the Reserves the home strip of orange, it was indeed the oranges who took the lead as Reserves striker Laura Crossan pounced on an error in the First Team back line and hit a powerful shot high into the net beyond Laura Williamson in the City nets.

Up until then, it was the First team who had dominated possession and play and this pattern continued for the whole first half, but the Reserves stuck to their game plan and made it very difficult for the Cup holders. Kat Lindner scored with a superb free kick to make the scores even and Jane Ross, made it 2-1 before half time, finishing from close range from a Lindner pass.

Half time 1-2.

The second half became more one sided and the goals started to flow for the Champions. On the scoresheet for number three was Jane Ross, as she headed home a Sue Lappin flick. Centre half Eilish McSorley scored to make it 4-1 with a great header from a perfectly placed Clare Gemmell cross.

City then scored one of the goals of the game, when some excellent build up play involving Leanne Ross and Kat Lindner saw Lindner eventually cut the ball back for substitute Lisa Evans to fire home convincingly.

Evans then scored again, once more linking well with Lindner and then Lindner scored herself reacting well to a parry from Nikki O’Donnell in the Reserves goals after Evans had hit a stinging shot towards the bottom corner.

Jane Ross then got her hat-trick when she headed the ball against a Reserves player who unfortunately could do nothing to prevent it heading towards her own goal.

Ruesha Littlejohn then got on the scoresheet firing home after linking up with Sue Lappin.

Goal number ten came from Lindner as the German finished well following some good combination play between Evans and Littlejohn on the right.

The victory was complete from the penalty spot after a hand ball in the box and Leanne Ross stepped up to score.

City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki “I am delighted to be in the next round. Performance wise we were not good first half and the fact we were playing our Reserves perhaps contributed to this. The surface was not the best for either side today, but I was pleased with the second half performance as we were much more efficient. Credit to our Reserves as they made it very difficult for the first team, especially the first 30 minutes and it is a shame only one Glasgow City team can go through.”
