A thank you from Richie and Kate Evans

As Lisa Evans prepares to leave Glasgow City and Scotland for the slightly sunnier climate of Berlin to join German champions Turbine Potsdam on a professional contract, Lisa’s parents Richie and Kate Evans have asked if they can have published some words of heartfelt thanks to the club, it’s players, staff and supporters.

Richie Evans – “On behalf of Kate and I we would like to ask that you consider putting on your website some thoughts and thanks from ourselves.

“Kate and I have made a lot of great friends during Lisa’s time at Glasgow City, as much as Lisa has made team mates. We will both truly miss seeing Lisa playing for Glasgow City and meeting up with the countless friends we made at the club when we watched the team in action. From club staff at all age levels to the parents banter on the sidelines, we have made some fantastic friends and met some amazing people.

“We owe a lot to Glasgow City and particularly Eddie Wolecki Black for his training and the club’s development of Lisa, which we have no doubt has been the main factor in Lisa’s opportunity now. Under the influence of Eddie, Cas and Laura, this club took the girls to training like professionals and making them the very best they can be.

“The players have got to a really high standard and this is equally as impressive off the pitch, with how the club conducts itself in all areas. The best quote for Glasgow City is that they are ‘unpaid professionals’.  It could not be put any better. I know everything Lisa will be asked to do at Potsdam will be very similar and if not the same as at Glasgow City because in my opinion, the only difference between the two clubs is money. Finance can make that little bit of difference and allow players to make a living from the game, not work, and be able of course to rest more.

“The girls are a fantastic bunch and they have one of the best spirits I have ever known and this along with the intensity and standard of the training and playing has helped present this opportunity for my daughter. I truly hope that other players have the ambition to push themselves as far as they possibly can in the women’s game. I know Glasgow City often has the impression of a club where it may be difficult to break into the team, but Lisa joined as a young kid, played in the Reserves for the first year and has developed into being able to have this chance now.

“As an outsider my biggest question in the women’s game is if enough players really believe in themselves? To really take a chance, to give it everything and be the best you can be. I believe this opportunity is without doubt at a club like Glasgow City. The standards and demands are extremely high, but the coaching and development is second to none. You only have to look at the honours and achievements of the club over the last few years to see this.

“I know Eddie is a hard task master, but I have personally become very good friends with him over the years through Lisa’s involvement in the game and Kate and I would like to give a very personal and big thank you to him and his dedication to the club and development of every single player. His commitment and passion is unrivalled and he raises the bar every time. This is what makes Glasgow City achieve the level it does.

“To Laura and Cas, the hours you both put in is quite phenomenal, but the work does not go unnoticed with how the players are treated and the professionalism in everything the club does from match days, to media, kit, everything. Again Glasgow City is unrivalled.

“Who knows what the future holds for Lisa, but one thing that is for sure is that Kate and I will no doubt still be at as many Glasgow City games as we can, cheering on as two of your biggest fans.”
